O’Neill was selected to serve as co-planner, producer and manager of the Centennial Commission’s signature event: “In Sacrifice for Liberty and Peace.”

Invited attendees included the President of the United States, Congressional leadership, Cabinet members, states’ governors, top-ranking U.S. military leaders, veterans’ organizations, U.S. military legacy units, descendants of significant American WWI figures, and other national and international organizations, dignitaries, and VIPs, including the heads of state of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and the United Kingdom.

The ceremony in Kansas City, and complementary events around the nation were designed to reflect on what the war meant to Americans and how it continues to influence our nation and the world. Media from around the world covered or reported positively on the event.
