ENGINEERING kc streetcar opening

Grand Opening Ceremonies for the KC Streetcar, a new 2-mile transit system through the heart of Downtown Kansas City, took place May 5-7, 2016. O’Neill was hired as the Event Producer and Manager by the Kansas City Streetcar Authority. Grand Opening ceremonies included a private, VIP-only event on Thursday, May 5th for 600 guests and a public ceremony on Friday, May 6th that was open to the entire city.

More than $300,000 was raised through sponsor support and on May 5-7, more than 26,000 passengers experienced their first ride through Downtown on the sleek new KC Streetcars. The public ceremony included live music, arts displays, parties, free movies, a carnival, fireworks and other entertainment. Downtown was energized – literally and figuratively – by the new connectivity. The public response to the once controversial street car concept was overwhelmingly positive, as was press coverage across the United States.
